I lived in Little Bytham in the mid 1950s in the Carpenters Arms (now a private residence) - my dad was the landlord - and just across the road was the Post Office.
My memories include the 'tap room' in the pub, with an early juke box that played music like 'Christmas Alphabet' and 'Freight Train' and a blind dominoes player named Horace!
I have been back a few times to wallow in nostalgia, including visiting the local school some years ago.

Does anyone remember the Carpenters Arms?

I know that the soldier H G mason on the Litle Bytham war memorial is Harry Gordon Mason whose father was William Henry Mason of the village who was born in Stamford but presumably was around LB at the outbreak of the first world war.
Does anybody know anything about the Mason family that lived in LB at the time or later

I'm researching a family that lived in Castle Bytham a long time ago, and wonder if anyone living locally might have done similar family history research and come across these people.

The nuclear family is George Hairs (aka Eayrs, Hare, etc.) who married a Mary Fowler in Castle Bytham on 23 Nov 1787. Both were of the parish.

I think George was born in the mid 1760s in Castle Bytham, but have no idea where Mary came from. Very shortly after the marriage the resettled to Market Deeping.

Any information about these people and their ancestors would be most welcome from someone who lives a long way away.

Many thanks for any help you can give me I can be contacted on martin@eayrs.com

Best wishes

I have fond memories as a child, my nanna and grandad lived in Castle Bytham (the beautiful house with the pond and weeping willow - or known as brooklyn cottage) and I thought I would check out the website after all these years, still a beautiful place as I remember. 20 years ago I left england!
