" Just a short article this month to tell
you what we've been up to.
At one of our recent get togethers over a pint or three in the Fox,
Pat suggested that we should perhaps do one more thing for this year's
Jubilee celebrations, and plant some narcissus and daffodil bulbs
on the Upper Triangle and Lower Green around the village sign ready
for next spring.
So some of you have seen a small band of hardy souls with shovels
in hand in early October, digging for victory! Lets hope that nature
takes its course and gives us something to smile about after what,
some predict, will be a cold long winter.
We've also been talking about our central attraction for next year's
fair. Last year we had the 95th Rifle Regiment and everyone seemed
pleased with what they did. We wondered whether to get them down again,
and perhaps do something more. For example because they camp overnight
on the Saturday, we could perhaps ask them to turn it into a night
of music, food and drinks around the camp fire? If so, do any of you
know a folk singer, guitarist etc who would galdly come down and add
to the fun?
Or maybe we should try another re-enactment group with a different
theme, maybe another medieval or Napoleonic group, some maniacs that
will bring us a feeling for the 2nd World War, or a troupe that love
to relive the bygone Viking days? (mind you, we will have to draw
the line on any rape and pillage on the day!) These people need to
be booked up well in advance, so if any of you have any special requests,
please get in touch.
And lastly, .... , we are in the last throws of getting ready for
our Prize Bingo, Raffle and Whisky Challenge night in the Village
Hall. A big, big thank you to those of you who kindly donated prizes.
Remember, these kind folk (they know who they are) are the backbone
of our community, and it is thanks to them that so much is done in
and for the village."
