View from the road bridge in Castle Bytham looking back along the
disused railway line towards Saxby.
The line on which Castle Bytham was situated ran between Saxby and
Bourne. Between Saxby and Little Bytham the line was single track
and was managed by the Midland Railway. East of Little Bytham towards
Bourne the line became double track and formed the western extreme
of the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway.
The M&GNJR extended as far east as Sheringham and Great Yarmouth
on the north and east Norfolk coasts repectively. Westwards the line
travelled to Melton Mowbray and then onwards to Nottingham.
