Looking east along the line of the former track bed in, what was,
Castle Bytham station. The bridge carries the main road out of Castle
Bytham towards Holywell over the former railway line.
The line on which Castle Bytham was situated ran between Saxby and
Bourne. Between Saxby and Little Bytham the line was single track
and was managed by the Midland Railway. East of Little Bytham towards
Bourne the line became double track and formed the western extreme
of the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway which extended as
far as Norwich, Great Yarmouth and Sheringham in the east.
