Looking west along the line of the former Midland Railway at the western
end of the former railway station in Castle Bytham. The bridge carries
a farm track and public footpaths across the former line to Southcote
on the Clipsham Road. The former track bed is private property, public
access being prohibited.
The line on which Castle Bytham was situated ran between Saxby and
Bourne. Between Saxby and Little Bytham the line was single track
and was managed by the Midland Railway. East of Little Bytham towards
Bourne the line became double track and formed the western extreme
of the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway which extended as
far as Norwich and the north and east coasts of Norfolk.
