places : clipsham yew tree avenue : gallery

At the start of the Avenue stands the gate house once occupied by Amos Alexander. Amos was the Clipsham Estate Head Forester who began the practice of clipping the yews that lined the carraige drive in 1870. More recently the building appears to have been used as offices by the Forestry Commission but is now unoccupied and showing signs of beginning to fall into disrepair (May 2003).
