News
" This month's report is mainly
concerned with our Annual Dinner held on November 23rd, 2002.
As you will understand it was too late to appear in the joint
December / January issue (of The Glenside News)
I believe everyone enjoyed a good evening and certainly, as
usual, a very good meal. Our President, tim Rasell was unable
to attend as he was on holiday - the late change of date had
mixed up his plans regrettably.
Our Chairman passed on Tim's apologies and welcomed everyon
genrally and our special guests in particular. Put two Vice-Presidents,
Mr H Sharman and Mr C Munton along with Mr E Seymour and his
wife were congratulated on their regular and ardent support.
The Sports Editor of the Bourne Local, Mr Andy Gray, was our
chief guest and replied to the Chairman's welcoming speech.
He also presented Ralph Bradley with the Grantham League Cup
for topping the batting avergaes over the season.
Mrs Laughton, donor of the Kaughton Shield for catching, presented
all the trophies, as announced by the Chairman.
They were as follows...
Batting for the P Keily Shield : J Lamin, runner-up J Hutchinson
Bowling for the C Bradshaw Cup: J Hutchinson, runner-up J
Lamin
Catching for the E Laughton Shield: R Fenn, runner-up J Hutchinson
Fielding for the R Dixon / T Fenn Shield: R Bradley
Committee Award - Castle Cup: Tony Fenn for much hard work
P Huthwaite Shield for Players Player of the Year: Ralph Bradley
After the Club Awards, the Chairman then presented his own
personal Awards for Special Achievements, three in all. First,
a miniature bat to James Hutchinson for his first century
for our club - 100 not out against Bottesford at Castle Bytham
on 21st July 2002.
In the same match, Ralph Bardley scored his maiden century
for the club - 113 not out, and was also rewarded with a miniature
bat.
James also recorded his first ever hat-trick against Ashton
Wold in our last match and was presented with the match ball,
suitably mounted.
All the trophies were suitably engraved with full details
of the individual achievements.
We owe sincere thanks to everyone who attended and, in particular,
to Colin and Margaret Bradshaw for their organisation of the
evening.
Hope you have been following the Ashes Tour - even if we only
managed one success. Things can only get better!
Keep Smiling! "
Peter Kiely
