Christmas started early for an almost capacity gathering in the village hall of WI members, friends and visitors for a Flower Demonstration presented by Penny Vincent, florist and NAFAS demonstrator from Buckminster.

Penny is a popular demonstrator, producing arrangements and designs well wihtin the ability of everyone watching. Relating amusing anecdotes of her life and tips and advice on the arrangements, she worked through four designs, to the delight and enjoyment of the appreciative audience.

A simple Advent ring used green and grey foliage, candles and shades of pink and purple sedum, roses, orchids and freesias, finished and highlighted with Christmas baubles. A hanging door plaque combined strong green foliage with white rose buds, oriental lillies, spider chrysanthemums and gypsophila, finished off with a white bow and flowing tails - a welcoming festive door design to grace any home. An offset triple arrangement used gilded begonia leaves and gold candles combined with mixed green foliage and gold cones. mimosa, yellow protea and spider chrysanths complimented the gold theme and gold bows added the festive touch to this festive composition. The final 'piece de resistance' used garden foliage, red roses, carnations and dyed red foliage to produce a festive impact. The design was complemented by the addition of an old teddy bear with festive bow tie and completed with attractive Christmas lights, creating a really festive arrangement.

Penny was warmly thanked by a very appreciative audience. The arrangements were raffled and the evening ended with much chatter and excellent refrehments.

The December meeting celebrates the 57th Birthday Chritmas Party at the Willoughby Arms, where members meet at 6.30pm for 7pm dinner on Wednesday 4th December.

Looking even further forward to 2003 and the meeting on 8th January, Marion Foers will be presenting a fun 'hands-on' evening to show that anyone can draw to make a design to do collage work.

Why not come and join us on Wednesday 8th January at 7.30pm in Castle Bytham village hall - for furtehr details ring 410354.

In the meantime from your local village WI ... MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
